Omega Q Plus Ingredient Comparison

September 22, 2021

Customers frequently ask us about Omega Q Plus. We wonder if the “Plus” in the name refers to a better product formulation of omega-3 oils. Here is our opinion on the ingredient formulation.

Although the Omega-3 fatty acids are not the “Plus”, the additional ingredients to the product is. Omega Q Plus ingredients are B vitamins (30 mg vitamin B6, 600 mcg folic acids, and 750 mcg Vitamin B12), 550 mg EPA/DHA, 174 mg L-Carnitine Fumarate, 100 mg coenzyme Q10 in the ubiquinone format and 550 mg EPA/DHA. The product comparison below shows that Omega Q Plus provides 200 mg of EPA, 350 mg DHA and 100 mg coenzyme Q10 (in the ubiquinone form). It is approx half of the recommended dosage by Cooper Complete.

Cooper Complete recommends our Advanced Omega-3 because it has 720 mg of EPA, 480 mg DHA per daily intake. This meets the daily recommended intake for anyone looking for an omega-3 supplement.

The “Plus” Ingredients

B vitamins increase energy levels and provide a pick-me-up. The Omega Q multivitamins contain higher levels of B vitamins than the daily recommended intake. Higher levels of B vitamins lower homocysteine in the blood. This is known as “cholesterol of the 21st Century.”

Vitamin B6 also helps to lower C-reactive Protein (CRP). Vit B6 marks Injury, infection, or fever-related inflammation. Higher levels of CRP increase the risk for diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

The Omega Q Plus product also contains Coenzyme Q10 in its ubiquinone form. This is the same form as Cooper Complete Original multivitamins.

It also includes L-carnitine. It is also a “fat burner.” Meat and dairy have L-carnitine. So the average person can produce enough. Nature Medicine journal reports that L-carnitine may increase atherosclerosis. Researchers hypothesize that a regular diet of meat has the potential to encourage the growth of bacteria that can turn L-carnitine into trimethylamine-N-oxide (TMAO). The TMAO compound slows down the removal of cholesterol from the bloodstream and alters the metabolism. These concerns have led to Cooper Complete supplements and vitamins no longer containing L-carnitine.

Omega Q Plus Resveratrol

Omega Q Plus Resveratrol is another product that the company offers. Resveratrol, a compound in red wine that acts as an antioxidant, is a plant substance. Antioxidants, which are naturally occurring substances, protect cells from damage from free radicals and help prevent heart disease. Although the initial press about resveratrol seemed promising, Dr. Dipak K.Das, an early researcher on resveratrol’s benefits, was later found guilty for falsifying and fabricating resveratrol data. The value of resveratrol for health has not been proven in high-quality human trials.

Supplements are an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Dr. Kenneth H. Cooper recommends that you look at the scientific research supporting a product before purchasing it.
